A Career as a Pediatrician Essay - 1632 Words
ââ¬Å"What do you want to be when you grow up?â⬠As a child, we have all been asked this question; and as unrealistic children, we all had dreams of being a superhero, princess, cowboy, or astronaut. Later on in life, as time went by, and as we became more knowledgeable, our answers became more serious. Some of us wanted to be teachers, business owners, or a veterinarian. However, I have always wanted to be a doctor, but not just any doctor. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a pediatrician. Now, half way through my junior year in high school, I have started to question the details of this career, and all the hard work it takes to become a part of the medical field. Pediatricians are responsible for assuring concerned parents that their precious child is on the correct track for a long and healthy life. While researching more on the tasks of these doctors, I found that they mainly examine the child before coming up with a diagnosis. A typical examine consists of checking their ears, reflexes, throat, etc. I had also learned that pediatricians are the first to examine a baby who is just born. They must be sure the new baby is breathing and responding correctly (WebMD). Now that I am sure what a pediatrician is, I want to know what it takes to become one. At this point in my search, I already know the process is a bumpy journey. What I have learned is that getting good grad es in high school is very important because it is just the beginning to my future at this point. After graduating high school, I will finish my generals in college, which will take about two years because I am already taking my AA degree in high school.
